WhatsApp now lets people message from a username instead of a phone number. When a customer writes to you as @their.name and keeps their number private, the conversation lands on the right board with its history, and your Calypso Agent answers it like any other. Nothing to set up, nothing to migrate.
- On the Business API, one customer stays one customer
- Meta now sends a business-scoped user ID (BSUID) in place of the phone number. Calypso reads it, so a customer who hides their number keeps one thread and one history instead of arriving as a stranger every time.
- Your own username changes nothing on your side
- Connect the same number you use today. Customers can reach you at @yourbrand or at your number, and either way the conversation lands on the same board.
